GoDaddy’s new Tempe Call Center – August 15, 2013

Go Daddy Tempe 18 Go Daddy Tempe 17 Go Daddy Tempe 16

On Monday after work I stopped by the new site, and took pictures. The top 2 are ground level images shot over the fence, giving you an idea whats been going on. The bottom is one of the buildings close by. Some of the buildings in the ASU Research Park are incredible. I like the curved mirrored glass on the front of this building, and the reflection of sky, clouds, and trees. Canon 5D Mark II, EF 24-105 F4 IS L lens, at F8,  ISO-100, 1/250 sec.

I met the superintendent at the GoDaddy construction site and he forwarded me several images. Thanks for the 12 incredible images Vince.  Vince works for Ryan Companies US, Inc., and the images were taken by Visions in Photography.

Go Daddy’s New Tempe Call Center – August 13, 2013

Go Daddy Tempe 14

I dropped by the new GoDaddy Tempe location on the way home from work last night. OK, it was right around 2:30 or 3:pm when I got there. A lot got done this week. The general grading seems to be complete, the sewer line is buried. Some electrical conduit, and plumbing is in place, some footers for foundations have been poured. I’ll add some of those pictures tomorrow. Just to the right of the ASU Research Park sign is a yellow “Ryan” trailer. That is  sitting to the back of the lot closest to the 101. GoDaddy’s in a prime location right at the front of the Research Park, with good exposure from Warner and the 101.

Go Daddy Tempe 15

This is shot from the other side of the pond, just to the right of the black truck is the water tank, and some of the equipment being used to help build the new building. Everything to the right of the pine tree is fenced in area where the new building and parking is going to be. This is the first time some of the crews were still on location, working. I imagine they start pretty early with the tempatures still reaching 110+ degrees.

“S” Curves – August 11, 2013

S Curves

Shot in August 2012. One of the roads in the South Mountain Regional Park. Multilpe “S” curves. Canon 5D Mark II, EF 70-200 F4 L lens at 70mm,  ISO-50, F10, 1/320 sec.

South Mountain – August 10, 2013

South Mountain looking south east

At more than 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park/Preserve is the largest municipal park in the country. It boasts 51 miles of primary trails for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking for all ability levels. From the park’s main entrance, you can drive up the Summit Road 5.5 miles to Dobbins Lookout and spectacular valley wide views or you can continue to the Gila Lookout for a view of the Gila River Valley. This scenic road is shared by bikers and hikers and there are many steep sections and blind curves, so maximum speed is 25 mph and just 15 mph on curves. From several look out points you can see downtown Phoenix. I love going into the park with my camera. With good flying weather 360+ days a year, there are almost always planes in the sky above Phoenix. This was shot in August 2012. This was shot looking South East into South Mountain. Canon 5D Mark II, EF 17-40 F4 L lens, at 40mm, ISO-100, F20, 1/40 sec.

Old House – Goodyear, AZ – August 9, 2013

Old House - Goodyear, AZ

This image was shot in August 2012. I left work, and just drove around. To say I took the back roads would be a bit of an understatment. I had my camera, and no place to be for a couple of hours. I shot a couple of abandoned houses, but this is my favorite picture from this little trip. Canon 5D Mark II, EF 17-40 F4 L lens at 17mm, ISO-100, F11, 1/125 sec. hand held, no flash. Sharpness and saturation adjusted in Adobe Lightroom.

Cardinals Stadium – August 8, 2013

Cardinals Stadium 1

This is the Cardinals stadium. In theory its modeled after a cactus. Arizona……. makes sense.

Cardinals Stadium

This area in between is like the “ribs” of a cactus.

Cardinals Stadium 2

The roof opens, but the field rolls ourside to get sun, water, fertilizer, and mowed. Above images were shot with either the Canon Rebel, or my 30D.

My neighbor in 2004-2005 Rico Petrokowski was a pilot trainer for Luke Air Force Base. NO was the answer, almost before I asked the question. I could be put on a waiting list, but would probably not be allowed to fly in a military fighter plane. Rico had great stories about being a pilot, and I envied him his career choice. Rico and several other pilots “shared” a Cessna 172. Payments, fuel, hanger, insurance, etc. Each owned a “share”. I understand this is very common. It was a 1966 model with a lot of “miles” on it. On airplanes its logged as “hours”. Maintenance on a plane is scheduled around how many hours the plane has on it. This is not like a car, where you can ignore the “check engine” light, or go 7-10 thousand miles before you get the oil changed. Planes have logs which is a history of the hours, and the maintenance. Every so many hours, the engine has to be re-built. It was a very fun sight seeing trip. My other neighbor Glen Simmons was the other passenger. Glen got to check out the “air bags” in the plane. Shortly after this trip, Rico got stationed in Washington. We also flew over our homes, and I have some neat pictures of the neighborhood from this trip as well. This is one of my two favorite pictures of the Arizona Cardinals Stadium. Taken 4/24/2005 with my C750UZ Olympus, ISO-50, F4, 1/800 sec, 21mm.

Groovy – August 6, 2013

Groovy Groovy 1

OK, we really do have a “live” turtle, (desert tortise) in our yard. Currently he is sporting a new pastel paint job courtsey of Jazmin. Canon 30D, ISO-200, 35mm, F6.3, 1/800 sec. Shot early in 2008.

Angie & Jordan – April 30, 2013

Angie & Jordan 9

Jazmin is my second shooter at weddings. She captured this emotionally charged scene, as Angie approaches Jordan in her wedding dress. Jordan is with me, and I’ve just had him turn around. He sees his bride for the first time in her wedding dress. To the right is the tree Angie & Jordan will be married under, being decorated with origami. I’m cheating a little, by posting this series as 3 different posts. I photoshopped out the other photographer, (me). Shot with the Canon 30D, ISO-100, F8, 28mm, 1/250 sec, with a speedlight 580 EXII camera mounted for flash fill.

Magic Mushrooms – January 14, 2013

Magic_Mushrooms

My brother in law Jeff has a cabin up north by the Mogollon Rim. It is close to 7000 feet elevation. On August 8, 2010  Jazmin and I were driving along one of the rim roads, doing a little exploring. Jaz told me she had seen some “Mario” mushrooms. I laughed. I’ve seen wild mushrooms, but never red capped white spotted “Mario” mushrooms. She insisted, I turned around and we went back for a look. She was right. I parked and we got out of the Pilot, and I still did not see the mushrooms till we were 5 feet away. She has incredible eyesight. This was shot with my Canon 30D, 17-40mm L glass at 40mm, F4, 1/160 sec, and ISO-200. I did some research when we got home from our stay at the cabin, and found out that these mushrooms are Amanita muscaria and are indeed “magic”, being noted for their hallucinogenic properties.

Black and White Tunnel – January 1, 2013

ConcretePipes

Today I start a journey. I’m going to post a different photograph each and every day in 2013.

Why this photograph? Well for this project I had to start somewhere. If you ask my beautiful wife, she will tell you I took hundreds of photos of these pipes. I love the composition, the feel of something about to happen. This picture was taken early 2004, with my Olympus C750UZ. A 4.0 megapixel beast. It sported a 10x optical zoom, complete manual mode, a macro zoom, and much more. I fell in love with the feature, where you pressed the shutter 1/2 way down to focus, then continued to “instantly” take the picture with NO annoying lag time.

My current cameras include a Canon 5D Mark II, and a Canon 30D. I’ll go into the rest of my gear at a later date. This is a project I’ve been thinking about and planning for several months. You’ll see some of my current work, along with some oldies. I hope for this to become a journey we can all learn and grow from. I’ll be introducing some friends, and family along the way. This journey is as much theirs, as it is mine, and yours. So the Black & White Tunnel is as good as a choice as any, and the place I choose to start the journey. I hope you enjoy the trip!    JLP
